Warsaw, Indiana based Zimmer Holdings, Inc was officially spun off from parent company Bristol-Myers Squibb Co. on Tuesday August 7, 2001. The divestiture was designed to allow both companies to focus more on their respective core businesses. Zimmer, founded in Warsaw in 1927, designs, manufactures and distributes orthopaedic implants and related equipment and supplies. The company employs around 1,500 people in Warsaw and 3,200 worldwide.
